Description
The new SpellCaster model has turned out to be one of the very best solid-body electric guitar designs of Terry McInturff’s career. The response from players and attendees at a few performances has been more immediate and enthusiastic than perhaps any other guitar he’s publicly tested under combat conditions in the past 15 years. The SpellCaster is at first glance a rather unique mixture of vintage classic features and classic TCM (Terry C. McInturff) features, but there is much more to it than that.
The precisely determined acoustical nature of the chassis is very resonant in the right ways. From there, this nature is interpreted by not only the custom-spec Fralin Split-rail pickups, but by Terry’s latest version of the unique Maxi-Q tone filter set.
Sound-wise, this is an exceptionally versatile instrument, capable of covering numerous musical grounds. The basic tone of the SpellCaster starts with Fender-esque Strat and Tele tones, but with a sustain and girth one normally associates with a Les Paul. Next, the Maxi-Q takes the player into mini-humbucker and P-90 territory quickly and easily via a concentric pair of vintage-style Neve console knobs. The Maxi-Q takes the place of the traditional tone control. Inspired by the classic analog recording console EQ, the Maxi-Q gives you finessed control over the treble and mid-range in a way that’s never been offered in this way on an electric guitar—with no batteries! You will have two separate tone shapers: The warm filter (low-pass filter) and the sweet filter (mid-pass-to-mid-range notch filter). Each filter is adjusted by means of it’s own rotary control on the dual-concentric pot, and the 3-way switch toggles between the two filters. Plus it’s true bypass. Easy onstage!
It should also be noted that the mahogany neck features the bullet-proof 2006 TCM (Terry C. McInturff) neck design which has had ZERO warranty problems over the course of building over 3700 guitars!
